1. How does the Angel Gabriel’s word to Mary compare with his word to Zechariah (Luke 1:13-17)? How does Mary respond differently (1:34 & 38) than Zechariah (1:12&18)?
2. In what ways might Mary’s life have been filled with the contrasting experiences of hope & fear, joy & sorrow, and surrender & resistance? What other things might Mary have experienced?
3. In what ways is fear present in our lives? What is the cause of that fear? Why is it significant that the Angel Gabriel said, "Do not be afraid" (1:29-30)?
