John 1:1–14 – “A New Dance” – J. P. Kang

Discussion Questions:

1. Ecclesiastes famously observed that “there is nothing new under the sun” (1:9). How is Jesus a continuing expression of God’s power and love as we know them from the Old Testament? On the other hand, how does Jesus make things new between God and the world?

2. John tells us that we can “become children of God” (verse 12) by receiving and trusting in Jesus. In this way we are adopted into God’s family and we in the church become siblings-in-spirit (if not in flesh). How does that identity impact how you view your place in Christ’s body?

3. John also proclaims the mystery of the incarnation: “the Word became flesh and lived among us … full of grace and truth” (verse 14). How do you see Jesus—the incarnate Word—alive and present in your community?
