2 Chronicles 10 – “Rehoboam – Overplaying a Power Play” – J. P. Kang

Questions for Reflection:

1. To whom do you turn for advice when you are faced with a big decision, and why? When you get conflicting advice (as Rehoboam did), how do you decide what to do? Pray for wisdom whenever you are researching, reflecting on, and making decisions!

2. The story of Rehoboam illustrates the truth of the saying “A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger” (Proverbs 15:1). From these examples, what do we learn about managing conflict, especially with those closest to us?

3. Jeroboam’s foolish words and actions resulted in the split into two kingdoms, Israel in the north (ten tribes) and Judah in the south (two tribes). How might we minimize or avoid similar consequences in the conflicts we face? In particular, how might patience, kindness, and gentleness preserve relationships and unity?
