2 Kings 16:1–14 – "Ahaz – Bedazzled" – J. P. Kang
Questions for Reflection:
1. King Ahaz and the people of Judah were dealing with a coalition of armies attacking them from the north (v. 5). How do you cope with external sources of danger and the natural reaction of fear or terror?
2. Ahaz responded by paying the most powerful person he knew, the king of Assyria, to deliver him (vv. 7–9). What is the balance of your reliance on material vs. spiritual resources to protect your life?
3. While visiting the king of Assyria to confirm his political loyalty, Ahaz was reminded of his spiritual loyalty by an impressive foreign altar. How do we cope with competing impulses and distractions in our daily lives?
4. How do we make sure that we start with a proper foundation and continue to build our lives on that firm foundation? (See Luke 6:47–49 and 1 Corinthians 3:5–15)
